Some images from the panel discussion “Thai Contemporary Art: Surging Ahead or TreadingWater?,” organized by Foreign Correspondents’ Clubof Thailand (FCCT) at FCCT Clubhouse, saw many familiar faces from theinternational press and contemporary art peers joined in on a very productivesession.
Prof. Dr. Apinan Poshyananda, the Artistic Director ofBangkok Art Biennale, and #BAB2018 artist Alex Face participated in thediscussion with Professor Thanom Chapakdee, critic and Artistic Director ofKhonkaen Manifesto, along with Susannah Tantemsapya, Founder of the artplatforms Creative Migration and Bangkok 1899, and Valentine Willie, CreativeDirector of Ilham Gallery, Kuala Lumpur; moderated by Gwen Robinson, Editor of Nikkei Asian Review, and Director of FCCT.
Dr. Apinan presented a timely issue concerning therole and freedom of artistic expression to critique socio-political happeningsthrough contemporary art, and mentioned artists from Korakrit Arunanondchai,who has been active internationally, to Headache Stencil, a local graffitiartist. While our #BAB2018 artist Alex Face, who is very well-recognized amongthe street art scene, shared his stories when he just started out working inpublic spaces.

โดยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.อภินันท์ นำเสนอประเด็นที่น่าสนใจยิ่ง เกี่ยวกับบทบาทของศิลปิน และอิสรภาพที่จะวิพากษ์วิจารณ์เรื่องการเมืองและสังคมผ่านผลงานศิลปะ และยกตัวอย่างศิลปินไทยที่ไปโด่งดังในเวทีนานาชาติเช่น คุณกรกฤต อรุณานนท์ชัย ไปจนถึงงานสตรีทอาร์ต เช่น ผลงานของ HeadacheStencil ส่วนคุณ Alex Face ศิลปิน#BAB2018 ที่กำลังมาแรงในวงการสตรีทอาร์ต ก็ได้แบ่งปันเรื่องราวสมัยที่เขาเริ่มต้นสร้างสรรค์ผลงานในพื้นที่สาธารณะเช่นกัน
