Narongyot Thongyu is a contemporary Thai artist. He studied Painting at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, and received his Masters in Visual Arts from Chiang Mai University. Inspired by his childhood living by the remote coast of Songkhla, Thongyu often uses scraped objects found by the seashore, and compile into a series of works varied in medium ranging from drawing, painting and sculptural objects. He is interested in the dialogical aspect of objects. Each work implicitly reveals his quests of the social power relations between goods, human and nature and the prevailing ideologies in the spaces of production. His work expands the possibility of material, tapping into the tactile and human dimensions within an object and its history. Fictional yet realistic, his tactile artwork investigates the transpersonal and societal concerns through the agency of materiality. Thongyu’s recent solo exhibitions include Take My Breath Away (New Zero Art Space, Yangon, 2019); Shipwreck (Flotsam & Jetsam) (Suvannabhumi Art Gallery, Chiang Mai, 2019); A Child's World in the Days of Adults (People’s Gallery BACC, Bangkok, 2018); and group exhibition All Time High (Gallery Ver, Bangkok, 2018). He lives and works in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

ณรงค์ยศ ทองอยู่ สำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาตรีในสาขาจิตรกรรม คณะศิลปกรรม ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลล้านนา วิทยาเขตภาคพายัพ เชียงใหม่ และปริญญาโทในสาขาทัศนศิลป์ คณะวิจิตรศิลป์ ที่มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ จากความผูกพันกับวิถีชีวิตในวัยเด็กในชนบทริมทะเล เมื่อได้กลับไปเยี่ยมเยือนบ้านเกิดที่จังหวัดสงขลาในปี พ.ศ. 2557 ณรงค์ยศเริ่มกลับไปเดินเลือกเก็บเศษวัสดุที่คลื่นซัดขึ้นมาเกยตื้นไว้บนหาดทราย เพื่อนำมาสะสมไว้เป็นตัวแทนถึงความผูกพันกับบ้านเกิด จากเศษวัสดุที่ทะเลมอบให้เป็นของขวัญ ณรงค์ยศนำมาจินตนาการประดิษฐ์สร้างขึ้นเป็นตัวละครต่างๆ โดยใช้ทักษะการประดิษฐ์ที่ได้เรียนรู้มาจากยาย นำมาร้อยเรียงขึ้นเป็นเรื่องราวถึงความผูกพันกับทะเล ผ่านเรื่องเล่าของตัวละครเพื่อนประดิษฐ์ เนื้อหาในผลงานชวนให้พินิจถึงจินตนาการกับความจริงที่ล้อกันอยู่ในสัจจะของวัตถุ นิทรรศการเดี่ยวครั้งล่าสุดของณรงค์ยศ Take My Breath Away (New Zero Art Space, ย่างกุ้ง, พ.ศ. 2562); เรือแตก (Flotsam & Jetsam) (Suvannabhumi Art Gallery, เชียงใหม่, พ.ศ. 2561); โลกวัยเด็กในวันของผู้ใหญ่ (People’s Gallery, BACC, กรุงเทพฯ, พ.ศ. 2561) นิทรรศการกลุ่ม All Time High (Gallery Ver, กรุงเทพฯ, พ.ศ. 2561) ปัจจุบันณรงค์ยศ ทองอยู่พำนักและทำงานศิลปะอยู่ที่จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ประเทศไทย
