Nomin Bold b. 1982, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Bold lives and works in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia Nomin Bold, one of the leading Mongolian artists, is trained and specialized in Mongolian traditional painting Mongol Zurag. With contemporary Mongol Zurag, Bold brings the critical development of Mongolian society and politics in the global age. The focal point is to internalize conflicts of the identity of the young generation, as well as to friction between tradition and modern age. Bold’s wide-ranging oeuvre encompasses drawing, installation, and film. Her work is usually full of detailed references, such as the Buddhist imagery, motifs and symbols used to represent past traditions. The traditional is juxtaposed with the image of the contemporary realm and superfluous commodification. Born in 1982 in Mongolia, she studied visual arts at the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture in Ulaanbaatar. Numerous exhibitions in Mongolia and abroad, including The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, Australia); 2nd International Art Biennial (Bodrum, Turkey); 14th Documenta (Kassel, Germany). She currently lives and works as a freelance multidisciplinary artist in Ulaanbaatar.
