Post Apis (2020) is a public repository of carefully sourced local organic, raw honey safekept in the sacred space of a temple. As pollinators, bees are amongst the most important insects on Earth. They have been around for millions of years but in the 21st century, are nearing extinction. As a direct consequence, we risk losing all the plants bees pollinated and all the animals that feed on these plants. Honey will no longer be produced. A unique concentration of the environment and the atmosphere it is produced in, it contains the information of the flowers it pollinates (as well as any pesticides and chemicals used in the area). It is powerfully medicinal and has been used for thousands of years by every culture to heal, to fall in love and invigorate. It is the perfect carbohydrate and a potent allergy remedy. “Honey is liquid gold!”, the artist proclaims. Honey can last up to 2000 years with proper storage and Prvački’s Post Apis honey safe, more than preserving precious natural resource, is a possible last testament of the planet’s incredible biodiversity, inviting reflection on the fragility of our ecosystem.
The slow extinction of bees and the resultant adverse effects on the environment is a persistent interest of Prvački. An earlier work, Hand Pollination Glove (2018) is a humorous take on manual pollination trends, for example, a huge industry formed in China where people pollinate with Q-tips.
