Wat Prayoon

Wat Prayoonwongsawat Worawihan Wat Prayoon) is also known as Wat Rua Lek or Temple of the Iron Fence. It is believed that the name has come from the past event during the reign of the King Rama III when trading between Siam (Thailand) and England occurred. England brought the iron fences to Siam whereas Siam traded sugar at the same weight as the iron fences in return. The iron fences are installed at the boundary of Wat Prayoon. Although, this story has not known widely until 2018 during the 1st Bangkok Art Biennale, Kamol Phaosavasdi created an interactive installation art Sweet Boundary: In the Light Tube (2018) making an accessibility for the public to learn more about the temple’s history. Nino Sarabutra scattered ceramic skulls around the corridor conveying the circle of life and the meaning of living, whilst Krit Ngamsom’s group of turtles revealing the multireligion community around Wat Prayoon. Zodiac Houses (1988 - 1999) positioned alongside Monuments of the Memory, the Golden Room (2018) in the indoor space. Arnont Nongyao's new media art was also on display in the midst of religious elements.
