A Novel in Necessity’s Rhythm

Rasdjarmrearnsook’s research on Escape Routes is related to her quest to be at peace with herself. Facing death and afterlife have been a recurring theme in her art work and literature. In her writing in A Novel in Necessity’s Rhythm, the author reminisces flashbacks of past memory that appear in blurring images of the mortality in various circumstances. The story shifts along as the author travels to Chanthaburi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Chiang Mai and Bangkok. She describes scenes of road accidents, suicides, rapes, funerals and violence that appear in her vision. She writes about listening to funeral songs at temples and attending the school of spirits. These stories become increasingly intense to the point that the readers begin to question whether the author is part of the wandering spirits.

Excerpts of the book is read by Rasdjarmrearnsook is heard continuously along the corridors of Wat Prayoon Temple. The haunting sound of the artist can be heard near rows of portraits of the dead with their ashes in small cabinets. In the distance, temple bells and chanting of crematory ceremonies resonate. An eerie spectacle as viewers hear echoes of her voice in search for escape routes.

Rasdjarmrearnsook’s determination to control the destiny of her life has led to the concept related to active euthanasia which is both fictitious and real. Her action of self-distinction raises awareness of human ignorance and lack of empathy for other living beings. Symbolically, by wishing to end her life through eternal sleep, she makes a plea towards care of animals and human responsibility. Her project on care for canine is about donation for stray and abused dogs that she keeps in her home. They want to live but she longs for her exit.
