Flow (2020) by Souliya Phoumivong reflects remote life in Ban Kokxay, near the Mekong River. Through stop-motion animation, handmade clay models of colorful water buffaloes and humans are depicted as they move dumbly into the abyss. Through obedience and submission, the herd walk in a row without disruption. Some water buffaloes, however, become more equal than others. They transform into humans striding on highways that lead hopelessly to nowhere. Greed and gluttony eventually take them to their final escape destination.
