In DMZ Landscape series, Lee turns restricted or photography-prohibited areas into paintings. The Railroad Gone to Mt.Geumgang, 2012, for example, is a depiction of a scape located near the border of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. The mountain, which used to be an ideal destination, is now almost impossible to get to. While Rainbow Birdcage, 2016, illustrate that in DMZ birds are the only creatures allowed in the sky. On the Way series, is an ongoing project portraying of everyday landscapes with political and historical images, reflecting how war and realities appear like fiction to the artist.
