An artist and social activist Ubatsat focuses on a collective practice which attempts to communicate and create an understanding about people and communities under pressure or in crisis. By collaborating with farmers, craftsmen, musicians, cooks, and specialists, Ubatsat sets up a platform where everyone can participate in art creation. This platform enables him to work collaboratively with the community in making sculptures, paintings and installations. Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Chiang Mai University, he then pursued his Master’s degree in Philosophy and Religion at the Faculty of Humanities, Chiang Mai University. He is now a PhD candidate at the Buddhist University Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya. His exhibitions and projects include The Parallels of Pistol Forest (2020) with Lookcomb, a solo exhibition SOX STARS at CMU Art & Culture Center (2019), and Entwine: Maybank Women Eco-Weavers Travelling Exhibition (Singapore, 2019).
In Thai Death Starr (2019), Ubatsat searches for a way out for Thai people after two decades of struggle and schism. The black star rotates around the Earth destroying agriculture, forest and livelihood – here manifested in a painting, sheer size and intricate details of which recall our memories of the “Death Star” from Star Wars, symbolizing its potential destructive power, while a lonesome farmer standing on a field of husk looks to outer space in solitude and hopelessness with the Death Star in his view casting a shadow.
อุบัติสัตย์ เป็นนามแฝงของศิลปินนักเคลื่อนไหวเพื่อสังคมในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ผลงานของเขาเน้นการร่วมมือสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน เพื่อสื่อสารและสร้างความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับผู้คนและชุมชนภายใต้แรงกดดันหรือในภาวะวิกฤต เขาได้สร้างแพลตฟอร์มที่ทำให้เขาสามารถทำงานร่วมกับผู้ร่วมงานต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเกษตรกร ช่างฝีมือ นักดนตรี พ่อครัวหรือผู้เชี่ยวชาญ ในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานของเขา ตั้งแต่ประติมากรรม ภาพวาดไปจนถึงศิลปะจัดวาง นอกจากนี้เขายังจัดกิจกรรมต่างๆ เช่น การประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการเพื่อเข้าไปมีส่วนร่วมกับชุมชน ซึ่งกิจกรรมเหล่านี้ถือว่าเป็นสิ่งที่พึงปรารถนาในสังคมประชาธิปไตย
อุบัติสัตย์สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีจากคณะวิจิตรศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ และระดับปริญญาโทสาขาปรัชญาและศาสนาจากคณะมนุษยศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ ปัจจุบันเขาศึกษาระดับปริญญาเอกที่มหาจุฬาลงกรณราชวิทยาลัย นิทรรศการและโครงการที่ผ่านมาของเขา ได้แก่ นิทรรศการเดี่ยว ซ็อกซ์ สตาร์ส (SOX STARS) ที่ศูนย์ศิลปวัฒนธรรมแห่งมหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ (CMU Art & Culture Center) ในปี พ.ศ. 2562, Entwine: Maybank Women Eco-Weavers Travelling Exhibition ที่พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งชาติสิงคโปร์ (National Museum of Singapore) ในปี พ.ศ. 2562
ในผลงาน Thai Death Starr ในปี พ.ศ. 2562 อุบัติสัตย์ค้นหาทางออกให้กับคนไทย หลังจากสองทศวรรษแห่งการต่อสู้และความแตกแยก ดาวสีดำโคจรรอบโลก ทำลายการเกษตร ป่าไม้และการดำรงชีวิต แรงงานและชาวนาไทยหวาดระแวงและสังหรณ์ใจไม่ดี ต้องพึ่งพาโหราศาสตร์และญาณทิพย์ สวดอ้อนวอนต่อเทพแห่งดิน น้ำ ลมและไฟให้ช่วยพวกเขา เพราะเวลานั้นถูกควบคุมโดยนาฬิการาคาแพง ชาวนาผู้โดดเดี่ยวที่ยืนอยู่บนทุ่งแกลบมองออกไปยังอวกาศด้วยความโดดเดี่ยวและสิ้นหวัง
